OUR WOOL FAMILY
Our collections are designed with different types of wool adapted to each product. Thus, our wool family is an extensive one. Since 1879 we have fine-tuned our production techniques, making garments with superior long-lasting qualities. This is the secret behind our unique wool garments with unsurpassed quality and longevity.
Our wool collection primarily features Norwegian wool and merino wool. Like all children, each are perfect in their own way. Our oldest family member is Plover. This rugged fellow has been with us for over 80 years – since 1939.
You can say all our family members have their own personalities. Here they are:
(Remember: the lower micron, the finer the wool.)
NORWEGIAN WOOL
Njord
Fine Norwegian wool | 30.5 micron
Made from 100% fine Norwegian wool sourced from the sheep’s very first shearing. The fibers are short, resulting in a finer, softer yarn. The outcome is thin, lightweight, and soft garments, while still retaining the brilliance, natural crimp, and longevity for which Norwegian wool is world-renowned. Norwegian wool is among the world’s most animal-friendly textile fibers, thanks to the sheep’s natural mountain lifestyle. Our wool comes from sheep that roam freely in the vast Norwegian hillsides, grazing on natural pastures. To make it machine washable, the Njord yarn undergoes a treatment using natural, non-toxic salts. Garments knitted with Njord can be machine washed on a wool-cycle.
Plover
Long-lasting Norwegian wool | 33.5 micron
A proprietary blend of wool from Norwegian sheep. Due to its unique qualities and lasting popularity, this wool has been part of our collection since 1939. Norwegian wool is one of the world’s most animal-friendly textile fibers, owing to the sheep’s natural mountain lifestyle. This yarn provides an authentic expression, renowned for its distinctive crisp look and exceptional longevity. Garments knitted with Plover must be hand-washed.
LIGHTWEIGHT WOOL
Seagull
Lightweight wool | 27 micron
Our premium yarn from South American crossbred sheep is produced exclusively for Dale of Norway. This light and soft yarn is ideal for mid-layer garments that require a finer and more comfortable feel. To make it machine washable, it undergoes a treatment using natural, non-toxic salts. Garments knitted with Seagull can be machine washed on a wool-cycle.
Nature Undyed
Undyed lightweight wool | 27 micron
Premium 100% lightweight wool from Uruguay, utilizing the natural colors of the animal fiber, ranging from darker to brighter tones. These different shades are sorted and blended into mélanges, creating a limited range of natural colors. Water or chemicals are not necessary for a dyeing process, ensuring the yarn remains 100% natural and thus household compostable. Garments knitted with Nature Undyed must be hand-washed.
MERINO WOOL
Pure
Skin soft superfine merino wool | 16.5 micron
This superfine merino wool offers exceptional wearing comfort and is completely itch-free with a soft, luxurious feel. Finely spun, this wool is ideal for garments worn directly against the skin. Garments knitted with Pure can be machine washed on a wool cycle.
Mokena
Skin soft extra fine merino wool | 19.5 micron
This extra fine merino wool is the perfect functional fiber, offering exceptional wearing comfort. It’s completely itch-free with a soft feel, making it ideal as a base layer for sports and active wear. Garments knitted with Mokena can be machine washed on a wool cycle.
Zefir
Skin soft merino wool | 20.5 micron
Our superwash merino wool is among the finest wool qualities available. Sourced from merino sheep in warm climates, it features exceptionally fine, long-staple fibers that provide outstanding next-to-skin comfort. Garments knitted with Zefir can be machine-washed on a wool cycle.
BLENDS
Alys Eco
Superfine alpaca (66%) and GRS certified recycled polyester (34%) | 26.5 micron
This brushed yarn is naturally undyed, using the various tones of Peruvian alpaca fleece, with no treatment other than washing. The polyester used to hold the fibers together is entirely recycled from post-consumer plastic bottles. Garments knitted with Mokena can be machine-washed on a wool cycle.
Millefili
80% lamb’s wool (of which 35% is GRS recycled) and 20% recycled polyamide | 20.5 micron
This is a carded yarn composed of lamb’s wool and polyamide. It’s a versatile choice for creating multicolor jacquard knits. With 35% of the wool and all of the polyamide being recycled, the yarn qualifies for GRS (Global Recycle Standard) certification. Garments knitted with Millefili must be hand-washed.
Garzato
40% cotton, 22% acrylic, 20% alpaca, 10%polyamide, 7% wool, 1% Elastane | 25-27 micron (alpaca blend), 5 micron (cotton blend)
A yarn composed of two distinct components: an airy, luxurious alpaca blend and a cotton yarn with an ombré effect. The soft, luxurious alpaca forms a solid-colored base, while the cotton yarn with its flatter structure features smoothly blended color gradations. Together, they create both contrast and depth in the garment. Garments knitted with Garzato must be hand-washed.
